Clinical supervision from a senior mental health (MH) professional imparts knowledge, skills, and competence to less experienced practitioners. This toolkit is meant as a practical field instrument for technical supervisors (which can be different from line managers) to use when conducting individual supervision sessions. It should be used in combination with other supervision approaches – including for example InterVision and group supervision as outlined in MSF or equivalent guidelines. The aim of supervision is to help MH professionals assess their skills and to define the support they need from their supervisor in order to learn, expand their professional competencies, and improve the quality of care they deliver.

This report considers the health and humanitarian consequences of violent policies and practices on people moving along EU migration routes. It details findings from MSF medical humanitarian operations in 12 countries in Europe and Africa, as well as in the Central Mediterranean Sea. Taking stock of MSF operational experiences between August 2021 and September 2023, and drawing upon routine medical and operational data from MSF project and accounts from MSF patients and medical teams during that period, the report highlights how, at every step of people’s migration journey towards and within the EU, their health, wellbeing and dignity have been systematically undermined by the interlinking violent policies and practices embedded in EU and EU member state policies.

Between 2018 and 2022, teams from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the Central African Republic (CAR) took care of over 19,500 survivors of sexual violence across the country.
During the same period, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency (UNFPA) documented 14,907 other cases of sexual violence in CAR reported by other humanitarian organisations working in the country, or by state structures.
This report outlines the public health emergency that sexual violence has become in CAR, with recommendations to address the crisis.
Tongolo (“star” in local language Sango), a holistic project opened by MSF at the end of 2017 in the capital, Bangui, accounted for 66% of the cases seen by MSF. The project provides medical treatment and mental health support, as well as guidance to pursue legal action and obtain protection, such as emergency shelter or socio-economic support.
MSF teams also took care of patients for sexual violence at a dozen other locations, in nearly every corner of the Central African Republic. Numerous gaps were noted at different levels in terms of assistance for the survivors as well as huge challenges for them to access care.

Protocol > Standardized Survey

The guideline starts with the assumption that the need to carry out a nutrition survey, in an area where MSF is working, has been discussed with all decision makers at headquarters and field level. This is stipulated in criterion two of ”surveys based on the standardised intersectional survey protocols, approved by the MSF ERB.” Moreover, it was agreed to perform the nutrition survey to better evaluate the health status of the population living in the MSF catchment area.
